From 3D Models to Holographic Postcards: Bringing Cultural Heritage to Life

23.07.2026Sparks

A recent XRCulture webinar showed how reusable 3D cultural heritage models can be transformed into holographic postcards for museums, education and tourism.

The webinar Bring Cultural Memories to Life: Create Holographic Postcards with XRCulture and Twin it! Part II, held on 21 July 2026, presented the process of creating holographic postcards and explored their potential applications in the cultural heritage sector.

During the session, Matevž Straus (Arctur, Sl) and Alexandru Stan (IN2, DE) introduced participants to the concept of holographic postcards and discussed how they could be used in museums, education and tourism.

The session guided participants through the process, from selecting a suitable 3D model to developing the final experience. It also addressed the opportunities and practical considerations involved in applying this format in different cultural and educational settings.

The examples presented during the webinar drew on 3D content from Twin it! Part II, Europeana’s campaign supporting the digitisation and reuse of cultural heritage in 3D. The initiative encourages cultural institutions and EU Member States to make high-quality 3D assets available together with relevant metadata, contextual information and clear conditions for reuse.

The webinar demonstrated how existing 3D cultural heritage assets can be adapted for new formats and audiences. Holographic postcards offer an additional way to present cultural objects, monuments and stories in museum exhibitions, educational activities and tourism experiences.
