Telling Border Stories Through Innovative Holograms

In the Inclusive Border Cycling (IBC) project, we’re exploring exactly that — by creating holographic postcards that transform everyday objects and local memories into immersive storytelling experiences.
These innovative postcards are designed to engage both locals and visitors, spark curiosity, and preserve the diverse heritage of border regions.
What makes these postcards special?
Across several pilot locations, our partners have selected and scanned real-life objects connected to local stories — from family homes and traditional crafts to symbols of resilience, migration, and celebration. These objects have been transformed into captivating holograms, and the first postcard drafts are already complete!
Each postcard includes:
- A high-quality image of the 3D-scanned object
- The title of the story in both English and the local language
- A QR code linking to the story and its hologram on the central storytelling portal
Each holographic postcard brings to light a unique facet of life along Europe’s shifting borders — from personal historiesto cultural traditions and collective memory. These are stories of resilience, belonging, and transformation.
Just a few examples include:
- A Swabian family home in Baranya, lovingly restored as a tribute to cultural heritage
- Everyday life in a Hungarian border guard station near the Iron Curtain
- The remarkable journey of the “King of Timor Island,” who was born in Banat
- The colour and community of the Busó Festival in Mohács
- Legends and natural beauty from along the Drava and Mura rivers
- The quiet bravery of those who fled — and those who stayed — during decades of division
Together, these stories reflect the complexity and richness of border regions — and how they continue to shape identities today.

We recently held a hybrid partner meeting in Apatin, Serbia (19–20 November 2025), where we reviewed our progress and aligned on next steps.
What’s next?
We’re now finalising the postcards and preparing three story-themed video compilations that will visually connect the objects and narratives — bringing an even richer experience to viewers.
